Morbid Mondays: Free eBook of the Week – Parallel Worlds

Blurb:

On the surface, the story is about a pair of teenagers, trapped in a parallel world.  They must retrieve information from their past lifetimes before they can return to their own world.  Yet underlying the story is a message so powerful, so life-changing and controversial, it has been concealed for thousands of years – because these truths are capable of changing our current world forever.

Why I Chose It:

I’m not really into epic fantasy anymore and honestly, this book seems only mildly interesting to me but I know a lot of people like it. I chose this book because its rating stats are absolutely insane (for Smashwords where there are very few readers). Off of 54 Smashwords reviews, this book has a 4.96 star rating! In total, it has 53 5-star reviews and one 3-star review. That’s insane! This book must be excellent! And it’s free!

Morbid Mondays: Free eBook of the Week – Deadly Stillwater

Blurb:

Award winning author, Roger Stelljes, delivers an action packed, pulse pounding thriller that is the second book in the McRyan Mystery Series. The ruggedly handsome Mac McRyan, a fourth-generation cop, is faced with a complicated brazen daytime kidnapping, a media storm surrounding the case, and political scrutiny. It is a case of betrayal and revenge that will ultimately strike at the soul of the St. Paul Police Department. From the searing streets of St. Paul to the icy shores of Lake Superior to the murky waters of the St. Croix River, “Deadly Stillwater” is a non-stop rush you won’t be able to put down until its last thrilling minute. Midwest Book Review has said that Roger Stelljes has a “colorful flair and a knack for savvy dialogue.”

Why I Chose It:

Although I have not yet read this book or the first installment in the series, I was drawn in by the professional-looking cover and was not disapointed. I am intrigued by thrillers and this book has so many different elements to it that it really snagged my attention. I love books with kidnapping, especially where the kidnappers are complete ghosts, and lucky me, apparently, these kidnappers are not leaving any clues regarding the whereabouts of this missing cop. The book seems extremely compelling and the excellent reviews it has received does not hurt either. As soon as I have time, I plan on reading this free ebook!

Morbid Mondays: Free eBook of the Week

Oh how I love you, you pointless acronyms. Just something to brighten up those morbid Mondays. It will be a weekly monday event and I will post my favorite free eBook of the week, for any of you interested in finding some quality, free books. This week’s Morbid Monday Free eBook of the Week is…

Cover for 'Gloria'

Book Info:

I’m dying, well that’s what I’ve been told.  How has my life come to this: death, betrayal, friendship, love?  Yes, love.  I know it’s there somewhere, but I’m struggling to make sense of things.  How can I, Oliver Beaton-Court, be here in this cabin, looking at my dead wife and holding an axe…  Maybe Tom can give me the answers I need, or maybe there are no answers…

Why I Chose It:

As of ten reviews on Smashwords, this short story is holding its own at five stars. And I can completely see why. This is a gripping and suspenseful story that takes the reader into the confused, twisted mind of the main character, Oliver. At only 10k words, I caught myself marveling at the strength of Oliver’s character and the compelling aspects of the story. It is a definite must read!
