Morbid Mondays: Free eBook of the Week – To Read Or Not To Read

To Read or Not to Read

Blurb:

‘To Read or Not to Read’ is a short story by Vincent Hobbes. It was first published in ‘The Endlands’ (Jan. 2011)
Gunter von Strauss owns a small bookstore. He carries something for everyone’s taste.
He also carefully inspects each book, making sure they are safe to read.
Who knew that choosing the wrong book could carry such a consequence.

Why I Chose It:

I guess my opinion of the author, Vincent Hobbes, is a little biased because I’ve read his work in the “The Endlands”, a horror anthology, and I have also talked to him before. This short story sounds really captivates me. Don’t you just want to know what happens if you choose the wrong book? Don’t you? Vincent never fails to come up with these wonderful, never-before-thought-of plots that work at so well for him. He’s a great talent on the rise and this FREE short story of his is something everyone should take a look at!

Morbid Mondays: Free eBook of the Week – Parallel Worlds

Blurb:

On the surface, the story is about a pair of teenagers, trapped in a parallel world.  They must retrieve information from their past lifetimes before they can return to their own world.  Yet underlying the story is a message so powerful, so life-changing and controversial, it has been concealed for thousands of years – because these truths are capable of changing our current world forever.

Why I Chose It:

I’m not really into epic fantasy anymore and honestly, this book seems only mildly interesting to me but I know a lot of people like it. I chose this book because its rating stats are absolutely insane (for Smashwords where there are very few readers). Off of 54 Smashwords reviews, this book has a 4.96 star rating! In total, it has 53 5-star reviews and one 3-star review. That’s insane! This book must be excellent! And it’s free!

Check out this book’s amazingly positive Smashwords page!

Morbid Mondays: Free eBook of the Week – Pull The Trigger

Blurb:

Ellie’s husband owes money to some powerful people. The only way she can save his life is to do one “simple” job — retrieve a mysterious box and kill the courier. But can Ellie pull the trigger? Nothing is at it seems in this pulse-pounding mysterious short story from the “Dark Crossings” anthology by Sean Platt and David Wright.

Why I Chose It:

By now, I think you guys have figured out that I like horror and suspense with a twist of mystery. And that’s what this is. Something about the plot has really excited me for it is just one of those plots… I can’t explain why but something about this type of plot grabs my attention everytime. I just love those twist endings that shock the reader. I love to read and write them. It’s gotten some great reviews from earnest readers and I just want to know what this end plot twist is. This book has me sucked in and if I can find time in my busy schedule, I’ll have to read it. (If you do choose to read it, I’d be interested to know what you think.) Complete at 10k words, this book has an interesting plot with an assumed twist ending – which I adore – and it costs nothing to read! So why not download it?
