You Know When It’s YA: A Giveaway

So.

After all of my recent essays/rants/rambles/thing-a-ma-jigs, I decided it was time to do something fun for a change. And what could be more fun than a giveaway of some awesome YA books? (Hint: Nothing! Well, except for a million dollars, perhaps…)

I have 4 books to giveaway today–all YA and all thrilling. First is the dark YA thriller, Hushed by Kelley York. It was generously donated for this giveaway, and has been reviewed highly among readers. I have one copy available as an eBook–your choice of an .ePub or PDF file. Here’s more about it:

Hushed

He’s saved her. He’s loved her. He’s killed for her.

Eighteen-year-old Archer couldn’t protect his best friend, Vivian, from what happened when they were kids, so he’s never stopped trying to protect her from everything else. It doesn’t matter that Vivian only uses him when hopping from one toxic relationship to another—Archer is always there, waiting to be noticed.

Then along comes Evan, the only person who’s ever cared about Archer without a single string attached. The harder he falls for Evan, the more Archer sees Vivian for the manipulative hot-mess she really is.

But Viv has her hooks in deep, and when she finds out about the murders Archer’s committed and his relationship with Evan, she threatens to turn him in if she doesn’t get what she wants… And what she wants is Evan’s death, and for Archer to forfeit his last chance at redemption.

Here are the next three books:

Divergent (Divergent, #1) The Future of UsAngelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1)

These next three YA novels are a little different. They weren’t donated, but I already have them purchased on my Kindle and can lend them. I can only lend one eBook copy of each of these three, but keep in mind that once I lend them, you have 14 days to read them. It’s not my rule; it’s Amazon’s. Remember that this only applies to these three books, not Hushed. Also note that you do not need a Kindle for any of these books. You must have an Amazon account, however, and if you don’t have a Kindle, it takes five minutes (and it’s free) to download the Kindle for PC and read from there. (Again, Hushed does not require an Amazon account.)

Since I don’t want a simple giveaway post to be exceptionally long, please click on the books’ covers to find out more about them. But essentially (shortened blurbs follow):

Divergent: In a future Chicago, 16-year-old Beatrice Prior must choose among five predetermined factions to define her identity for the rest of her life, a decision made more difficult when she discovers that she is an anomaly who does not fit into any one group, and that the society she lives in is not perfect after all.

The Future of Us: It’s 1996, and Josh and Emma have been neighbors their whole lives. They’ve been best friends almost as long – at least, up until last November, when Josh did something that changed everything. Things have been weird between them ever since, but when Josh’s family gets a free AOL CD in the mail, his mom makes him bring it over so that Emma can install it on her new computer. When they sign on, they’re automatically logged onto their Facebook pages. But Facebook hasn’t been invented yet. And they’re looking at themselves fifteen years in the future.

Angelfall: It’s been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back. Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel. [My addition: This is also one of the most popular and beloved self-published books that I know of. Just sayin'.]

How To Enter:

The one problem with WordPress is that Rafflecopter, a giveaway miracle, does not work on it. So we’ll have to do this the old-fashioned way. Through commenting. *gasps from all around*

I’ll try to make this simple, so to enter you must:

- Share this post. Whether on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Google+, your blog, etc. I don’t really care. However, if you share it on Twitter, please tweet using the hashtag #IncessantGiveaway so I can more easily keep track of entries.

- Comment. In your comment, you must link to where you shared this post. In addition, please include your email address so I can contact you if you win. Also, if you’ve read one of these books and don’t want to be in the running for winning it in particular, please say so in your comment. If you don’t, I’ll assume you’re fine with whichever book. Although you may choose not to be entered for a book or two (maximum of two) that you already own, you don’t get to choose which book you want to be entered for–you get one randomly if you win. But let me assure you, they’re all quality books.

…And that’s about it. If you’d prefer, you may also enter by emailing me at JHansenAuthor(at)gmail(dot)com instead of commenting, but the same above rules apply.

**This giveaway ends in one week; entries close at 11:59 P.M. EST on Sunday, May 27th.**

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please let me know!

Enjoy!

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop – King of the Merge by Bradley Convissar

At long last, the giveaway begins! Now for a quick recap:

As you may or may not know, I’m participating in the Spooktacular Giveaway Hop this October 24th through 31st, beginning today. This is a HUGE event with hundreds of participating blogs so I am glad to be a part of it this year. But to participate, I need one thing: a book to giveaway. And oh I have a great one for you today. What better genre to giveaway than horror? None. It’s a horror novella by one of my favorite indie authors! An intriguing new release by this author that I am so excited to read. And the book is…

*pauses for dramatic effect*

Blurb:

William Brookshire is just a simple college student, out collecting a couple of items for a late night rendezvous with the girl who used to be the love of his life, when a spontaneous street race turns his life upside down.

He knows it isn’t his fault when the driver of the Porsche runs a red light, knows it isn’t his fault when the driver dies of the injuries he sustained during the horrible accident, but William just can’t make himself believe he is completely free of fault.  And when a vision of the driver starts appearing in his room, starts stalking him around campus, it threatens to drive him mad.

Why Bother?

Bradley Convissar is an AMAZING horror author. He has this way of telling a story so dramatically and effectively it really compells you to read on. Being a big fan of his books, I am so excited to host this book for a giveaway. It was released only yesterday! I will be reading and reviewing this book as well. (My review will be posted on the 20th, so stay tuned for that). So excited. If you would like to see how much I love this author, read my review of Dogs of War, which is currently my favorite indie book of horror. http://incessantdroningofaboredwriter.wordpress.com/2011/09/03/book-review-dogs-of-war/ Why else should you enter? Well, the book is being offered for free for goodness sake’s! Doesn’t that intrigue you, at all?

Bradley Convissar has promised to giveaway three copies of this horror novella in honor of Halloween. That means three lucky winners! Be sure to enter by the giveaway’s closing on the 31st!

How to Enter:

I wanted to make this simple and easy, so here are the requirements. When the giveaway begins on the 24th, to enter leave a comment with your email address and I’ll get back to you ASAP. First, you must do the following:

a) you must follow my blog if you haven’t already

b) follow my twitter – @ABoredAuthor – if you haven’t already and if you have a twitter account

c) if you are one of the three lucky winners, Bradley would really appreciate a review of his book.

Simple enough, right?

Rating

Bradley also wanted me to share this with you, a screenshot of King of the Merge at its height in sales. It reached the number 21 bestseller in horror ebooks on Amazon. So to see what all of the buzz is about, be sure to enter in this giveaway! And now for my brief review:

1 star1 star1 star1 star
As one may say, “Bradley Convissar strikes again”.  This was an interesting, different novella, one that I have never read anything like. It was creepy and compelling at the same time and I read it in only the two sittings. The one thing that I hated about this book, however, was all of the unnecessary obscenity throughout it. I hate that in books and I found myself coming across a number of TMI moments and saying to myself, “really Bradley? Do you really have to say that?” In my humble opinion, this book would be much better if given a thorough cleansing and I am sure many of you would agree. No one likes obscenity in books: it adds nothing and just aggravates the reader. That being said, this was still a great book. I enjoyed the character and his internal conflict with the specter… that was way cool. I was also intrigued by the MC’s awkward relationship with his “friend” and the revelation at the end really got me. This was a creepy, chilling horror novella that I believe you all would enjoy. It is not gory or frightening or action-packed. It is… different… but in such a good way! Although this is not Bradley’s best book, it was an enjoyable, creepy read that is perfect for a Halloween giveaway like this one!

Good luck to all of you enterers and let the games begin!
