Character Interview – ‘Married To Murder’ Blog Tour
Posted by John Hansen
As a part of the ‘Married To Murder’ blog tour, I am having Jennifer Oberth, a follower of this blog and the author of ‘Married To Murder’, here for a humorous interview with her protagonist. Enjoy!
Ella Westin has been through a lot lately and after marrying Ella and Joe, Father Preston requested an audience. He’s going to ask her some unique questions to help her sort through some troubles. She is not happy about it.
What is your favorite occupation?
Baker. Don’t ask me why, I’ve never baked professionally but if I ever find myself in a position where I no longer work for the government, I’m going to bake.
Which quality would you most like to have?
Optimism. Joe is the optimist of the family. He sees things so brightly and happily, sometimes it makes me sick. I’d never admit this to him, mind you, but deep down, when I’m at my darkest, his smile lets me know everything will be all right. Course in that moment I’d like to whip up a cake and smoosh it in his face. Who smiles when everything looks bleak? Who does that?
Where would you like to live?
I enjoy Port Bass but New York is where everything is happening. Crime, I mean. There are a lot of rumors flying around D.C. that the criminals in New York are organizing themselves and criminal activity on the east coast might be picking up soon. Maybe I can get Joe to smile at them.
What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
My wedding day. Next question, please.
On what occasions do you lie?
You don’t equate lying with robbery, do you? I thought the confessional was private. You know that I don’t like lying. I’m quite honest, to tell you the truth. I’ll evade direct answers and skirt around the truth for my job. Unfortunately, it’s becoming more and more natural for me to lie. See, I wouldn’t have this problem if I was a baker.
How would you like to die?
Why? What have you heard? I’ll have you know I am well protected and I can take care of myself. I’m trained in hand to hand combat and I’m quite adept at using a dagger. If I take your question as a philosophical or spiritual inquiry then I’m like everyone else; I’ll die fighting. Kicking and screaming `til the bitter end. No one’s going to take me by surprise; I’m going to see it coming and take my attacker with me. If I have to pass on in this violent way, I hope it’s for my family or my country. I wouldn’t mind dying for either of those.
If you were to die and come back as an inanimate object, what would you want to come back as?
Where are you getting these questions from? I guess I’d like to come back as the ocean. The ocean is free and far reaching. It can be menacing or calm, depending on a variety of factors. I’d like that. I’d like to feel cool and warmth and provide comfort and life for some and a cold, miserable death for criminals.
What is your motto?
My motto? Now I have to think of a motto? All right, I’ll answer but this is the last question. I guess I’d have to say my motto is to never give up on what you want. (What you want might change.) I want to serve my country and bring justice to people who can’t do it themselves. Like bakers. They’re busy feeding others, they can’t go around solving murders left and right and that’s where I come in. Then there’s family. I was never inclined toward having a family, my own experience was quite disheartening. But Joe came along and all of the sudden I’m feeling the same for him and our not-yet-born children as I feel for my country. One thing I’m sure of, I will never give up on family. I’ll always be close by whether they want it or not.
Okay Father Preston, I’m going to go home and pray now. I’ve got a lot to do in a little time.

About John Hansen
John Hansen is the teenage author of “Man’s Best Friend”, coming from Untreed Reads Publishing. His work appears in the lit mags “Raphael’s Village” and “Crack The Spine“ and in the “Dark Light” anthology published by CH&BB Publishing. John is an avid reader, writer and book blogger among other things. He has a very interesting, unpredictable (sometimes good, sometimes bad), creative, disturbing, random, insightful and humorous mind. You can find him at home, cursing at whatever trivial concern dares vex him, mainly writers’ block. Or sometimes you can find him on his couch, after giving up on his writing, staring at the blank TV screen as if it is some magical, awe-inspiring promiseland. But in most cases, it isn’t.Posted on December 5, 2011, in Blog Tour, Guest Posts and tagged ella westin interview, funny character interview, jennifer oberth, jennifer oberth author, married to murder, married to murder blog tour, married to murder jennifer oberth.
